For forty years I have been intrigued with growing forms. Paul Klee’s Point (seed) to Line (stem) to Plane (leaf)Theory that likens artistic production to natural growth deeply resonates with my own practice. I find closely clustered lines in clay respond to my finger pressure, moving up and out. Bending the material back into itself, these lines become further articulated creating accordion folds that expand and contract as the shape is defined. This building process and the resulting forms have multiple references: that of plants and landscapes, architectural ornament, fabric on bodies, lanterns and bouquets, and evidence of human and animal paths.
The ongoing series has been a journal, a memento mori to phases of my life and the journey through it. This colorful group celebrates renewal, with the hope that Spring affords us all.
